Dr. Xianguo Li is a Professor of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University Research Chair (2014-2021), and the Director for the Fuel Cell and Green Energy Laboratory at the University of Waterloo. His research interests include hydrogen generation and hydrogen fuel cells, liquid fuel atomization and sprays, and green energy systems, as well as the thermal management of power batteries for electric vehicles. Dr. Li has published extensively, including the book “Principles of Fuel Cells” (single-authored) and “Fuel Cells for Transportation: Fundamental Principles and Applications” (co-edited). He serves as the editor in chief for the International Journal of Green Energy, Field Chief Editor for Frontiers in Thermal Engineering; Vice President, Technical Program, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering; President of the Fuel Cell Division, International Association for Hydrogen Energy; and President, International Association for Green Energy (IAGE). Professor Sam Zhang received his Ph.D. degree in Ceramics in 1991 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. In 2006 he was promoted to tenured full professor in Singapore Nanyang Technological University. In 2018 he established and served as Director of Centre for Advanced Thin Films and Devices in Southwest University, China. Goran Strbac is a Professor of Energy Systems, with extensive experience in advanced modelling and analysis of operation, planning, security and economics of energy systems. Dr. Rostand Tayong is a Senior Lecturer in Automotive Engineering at the University of Bedfordshire (United Kingdom). Dr Florimond Guéniat (FG) is Assoc Prof and College Lead for manufacturing, mech and auto engineering in the College of Engineering at Birmingham City University. Prof David Towers is an Engineer by training and with a mix of experience across industry and academia. He served an apprenticeship in the aerospace sector, returned to academia to study for a PhD in optical diagnostics and then worked for 10 years in the automotive industry before becoming an academic in 2000. I retain a passion for a general engineering education and that remains the focus of our teaching at Warwick University. My research is centred on performing basic and applied work in optical sensing technologies with applications across engineering, the biological sciences and clinical practice. The research is frequently multi-disciplinary and I have worked closely with collaborators across engineering, physical science, biology and with clinicians. Through our work in structural mechanics instruments have been developed for full field vibration, deformation and surface topography measurement. Our research outputs in this field have established fundamental measurement science, reported in, for example Optics Letters and Optics Express, as well as patents, commercial instrumentation systems and £M benefits to industry in terms of enhanced designs and reduced costs. More recently, we have explored technology translation to healthcare applications, for example, imaging particles for full field flow velocimetry has led to organelle tracking in live cell imaging and mosquito imaging to quantify malaria vector behaviour in their natural habitat. I have served as Head of Department for the School of Engineering at Warwick University from 2017 until 2023 growing the department through introduction of degree apprenticeship programmes and the department achieved an improved outcome in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2021. I continue to provide input to a number of University level working groups.
